The fundraiser in memory of Professor Arkadiusz Orzechowski

Last Friday the fundraiser in memory of Professor Arkadiusz Orzechowski, which has been organised together with WMW SGGW and IVSA Warsaw, was completed.

All collected funds have been sent to Spartanie Dzieciom Foundation using the online donation form (available on their website). All together we have managed to gather 8 110 zł, which is triple what we have expected. We would like to thank all, who in this way commemorated the Professor.

If someone still would like to support the Foundation, you can do so using the form below:

Exotic Animals Section

Exotic Animals Section is constantly working on new research. This time an unexpected patient had to go under the knife.

In the picture students – Vice-president of the section, Aleksandra Szefer and a second year student, Piotr Szczygieł – assist by the procedure of female Western Hognose Snake’s lumpectomy.

Collected materials will soon be sent for histopathology, and its result will be discussed during one of the upcoming Conferences.

During the examinations our students are supported by DSc Wojciech Bielecki, SGGW associate professor and DVM Gabor Kamiński.

This is not the first time that Aleksandra and Piotr encroach upon reptile territory – their joint review regarding metabolic bone disease in reptiles and amphibians has achieved a second place in the section related to exotic animals on II National Veterinary Conference ResonnéVet.

Piotr has also taken part in 3rd Ethical Dilemmas in Veterinary Education Conference with his essay “Ethical Dilemma of Breeding Snakes in Rack Systems in the Context of Veterinary Medicine”.

Lectures

The first weeks of May have not only abounded in Conference related affairs, but also in interesting and valuable lectures.

We have had a chance to listen to lectures on three, different topics:

  1. The first one was a lecture from DScTadeusz Frymas regarding SARS-Cov-2 virus in animals.
  2. The next one was related to Imagery in ultrasound of urinary tract and reproductive system of rabbits and rodents held by DVM Katarzyna Godzielińska.
  3. The last, very practical lecture about the first steps in the profession of Doctor of Veterinary Medicine has been prepared for us by DVM Maria Zaczek, also known on Instagram as WeteryMaria.

As you probably remember, this last lecture had a charity aspect to it – We have managed to gather 1000zł for Rasowy Kundel Foundation!

We would like to sincerely thank all the speakers, who despite the huge workload, have found the time to meet up with the students. We are glad to be able to learn from such great specialists.

We would also like to thank all the participants of the lectures for such a high attendance and all the kind comments after webinars.

Your commitment inspires us to do even more! In particular, we would like to thank you for participating in the fundraiser – We’re shocked how much money we have all managed to gather in such a short time. We can only say: You’re amazing!

And lastly we would like to thank the organizers and originators of the lectures – Weronika Tomys, Julia Szmigielska and Paulina Bindas.

6th International Scientific Conference of Veterinary Medicine Students

It has been a week since our Conference, and we are still delighted that we have managed to organize this event. There is also another very important reason for us to celebrate – the success of our colleagues in the essay contest. This year two essays submitted by our members received an award:

  1. Kaja Wencel and Daria Wola for the essay: “Occurrence of polyomaviruses and circoviruses in broods of canaries (Serinus Canaria) and Bengalese finches (Lonchura striata f. domestica) from a flock infected with these viruses”
  2. Marek Tomaszewski i Kasia Urbańska for the essay: “Seminoma with renal metastases in domestic pigeon (Columba livia domestica) –  a case report”.

Congratulations to the winners and we wish you even more successes in the future! 😀

We would like to also thank the members of our Club, without whom the Conference would not take place – namely our Organizing Committee!

Thank you for your hard work and commitment for the last six months, all sent emails and filled out documents, created artwork, and during the last week – sleepless nights. 😉

All of this would not be possible without you! We would like to also thank: Club supervisor DSc Tomasz Sadkowski, Paulina Bindas, Artur Banaszkiewicz, Magda Nowak, Delfina Wolny, Angelika Błaszczyk, Monika Golińska, Ewelina Pierzecka, Łukasz Budzich, DVM Elżbieta Stefanik, Daria Woli, Kaja Wencel, Urszula Podrażka, Roksana Brożyna.
