The 8th International Stopmastitis.pl Conference

43

Last weekend, the 8th International Stopmastitis.pl Conference was
held, attended by the Cattle Health Section of our Society – Section
President – Artur Banaszkiewicz, Patrycja Czerwińska, Piotr Bieliński
and Karol Walczak. In those two days they listened to many interesting
lectures on topics related to reproduction and treatment of diary cattle.
In addition to gaining knowledge during the conference, they also had the opportunity to meet doctors who are the greatest authorities of
Polish cattle medicine. The whole group returned so satisfied that they
are already planning to participate in next year’s edition.

Congratulations to Stopmasitis.pl on such a professional preparation of the event!

World Suicide Prevention Day

„According to the latest research by the „Journal of the American
Veterinary Medical Association”, in the last three decades, the risk of
suicide among this group [veterinarians] is 3.5 times higher than in the
general population. It is reported than one in four veterinarians has
experienced depressive symptoms or other types of emotional disorders (anxiety disorders, professional burnout, etc.) in their life. This is definitely more than in other professional groups.”

September 10. was designated by the WHO as World Suicide Prevention Day. Knowing that this is a significant problem in the environment of veterinary practitioners, we would like to remind you to take care of your mental health from the beginning of your studies,
maintaining a healthy work-life balance. You are the most important
person in your life and you must take care of yourself first. It is you and
your health, not your studies and work, that should come first. If you feel as if life is getting harder for you, do not hesitate to seek help from
specialists. You can get such support at the university and outside it,
and we encourage you to use it! In the Instagram post and on the
website, the links to which can be found below, you can read more
about where to look for help, but also how to support people around you.

Take care of yourself!

Ms Monika Ruskowska DVM

We know that many of our followers are interested in cattle medicine, so today we’d like to recommend you something special! Ms Monika
Ruskowska DVM, with whom we had the opportunity to work in
organizing the lectures, started running her own website, as well as a
Facebook and Instagram profile! You will find the links to the website
and the social media profiles below. We encourage everyone interested in the topic of cattle medicine and reproduction to follow, it’s definitely worth it!

We would also like to remind you that the lecture given by Ms
Ruskowska has so far been the only lecture organized by our Society, where there were more people interested than available tickets – let it
speak for itself!

And in the photos you can see two of our members – Artur Banaszkiewicz and Patrycja Czerwińska, who had the opportunity to
practice under the supervision of Ms Ruskowska during their summer
internships.

An article on dangers of exposure to psychogenic substance in dogs and cats

36

Have we already mentioned that our students don’t laze around even
during summer holidays? We have more evidence of this! In July
„Magazyn Weterynaryjny” published an article on dangers of exposure
to psychogenic substance in dogs and cats, co-authored by two
members of our Society – Daria Wola and Kaja Wencel. Congratulations!

At the same time, we would like to thank our academic teachers from
the Department of Pharmacology and Toxicology – dr hab. Marta
Mendel, dr hab. Magdalena Chłopecka and Urszula Latek DVM, for the
willingness to cooperate with our students.
